Dear Student: 

Congratulations on your decision to take the next step in your education by attending St. Charles Community College. All of us who work at the college wish you every success in your studies. 

The college has a top-notch faculty and staff, dedicated to your success and to excellence both in and out of the classroom. Our career-technical graduates are well-prepared for employment, and our transfer graduates are ready for a successful transition into a baccalaureate program. You have made a smart choice. 

This handbook provides important information you should know while you are a student here. Please use this as a supplement to our general catalog and online credit class schedule.

Student Rights & Responsibilities

Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible for their learning journey by: 

  • Selecting a program of study consistent with their abilities and interests 

  • Selecting coursework that corresponds with their level of preparation and program of study 

  • Enrolling in courses that meet their availability 

  • Securing course materials necessary to achieve Course Learning Outcomes 

  • Ensuring appropriate effort is given in and outside of the classroom 

  • Being attentive, participating in class activities, and completing all assignments 

  • Regularly accessing the college Learning Management System for notifications, classroom announcements, and course communication 

  • Complying with college announcements, registration periods, and payment deadlines 

  • Observing all requirements found in the SCC College Catalog, Academic Calendar, and other official publications 

  • Frequently accessing their SCC Student Email 

  • Reviewing and responding to official communication from the college 

  • Seeking appropriate support services to improve their level of academic achievement and to enhance the quality of college life 

  • Behaving in a humane and ethical manner both in the classroom and in all communication and contact with members of the campus community 

Students are expected to attend all class sessions, both in person and virtual as scheduled, and report to each session on time.  

Students are responsible for completing any missed assignments. Excessive absences jeopardize student success. Students should review attendance policies in their respective course syllabi.  

Excessive absences may result in a lowered or failing grade in a class.

Student Rights

The United States Constitution and State of Missouri guarantee SCC students of certain rights. Substantial violation of a student’s rights may be appealed in accordance with the Student Grade or Conduct Appeals Procedures. 

The following rights also apply: 

  1. Access to scheduled class meetings and appropriate support services. 

  1. Classroom instruction, assignments, and assessment consistent with the course description and Course Learning Outcomes established in the College Catalog. 

  1. The right to due process including timely resolution and appeal in accordance with SCC Policy & Procedure.
