ART 2400 - Painting I 3 Credit(s)
Studio course where students work with oil paints to realistically represent subject matter in the tradition of Western Art and participate in critique sessions. Paint density, texture and chemistry will be discussed. The formal aspects of drawing will be applied. Painting demonstrations are designed to help each student understand the objective of the assignments. Student will prepare their own painting surfaces in order to learn and appreciate the craft involved with the entire process of creating a finished work of art.

CLO 2) Students will produce paintings using a variety of traditional painting materials such as oil paint, brushes, canvas, solvents, and paint mediums.
CLO 3) Students will describe and analyze paintings using the necessary art vocabulary.
CLO 4) Students will identify and differentiate between important artists and artistic styles found in Western Art.
CLO 5) Students will demonstrate the ability to present artwork professionally.
CLO 6) Students will demonstrate their ability to ascertain and describe a variety of qualities in paintings during a critique session.
