ESL 100 - SCC Success & Skills for NNS 3 Credit(s)
Advanced instruction for non-native speaking students regarding key strategies and skills needed to be successful in an American college, including listening, speaking, note taking, test taking, time management, and basic written communication. Student must take the Compass ESL test.
Co-reqs: ESL 115 Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Remote Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will be able to recognize the meaning and demonstrate controlled knowledge of selected academic vocabulary with 80% accuracy after developing and applying strategies for vocabulary learning.
CLO 2) Students will be able to analyze words for syllable, stress, and spelling patterns with at least 80% accuracy, as measured by a written or oral assessment where each word is assessed for correct recognition.
CLO 3) Students will be able to report improved confidence in language skills as expressed in an end of the semester Likert survey.
CLO 4) Students will be able to describe the various aspects of SCC college life, including campus services, resources, and buildings, with 80 percent accuracy, as demonstrated in the final assessment of college readiness, graded by a rubric.
CLO 5) Students will be able to explain the value of service learning and its role in the global community in a final reflection paper graded by rubric.
