MAT 105 - Applied Mathematics 3 Credit(s)
For career students to develop quantitative reasoning skills. Includes basic logic, financial decision-making, probability, statistical reasoning, linear and exponential modeling, and right triangle applications. Relevance of mathematics discussed as it relates to other disciplines.
Prereqs: MAT 096 with a grade of P (pass) or placement into MAT 098 Course Type: Lecture Delivery Method: In-Person, Online, Remote Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will evaluate arguments, claims, statistical studies, and graphs for fallacies, misleading information, and biases.
CLO 2) Students will calculate unit conversions, measures of center and spread for a data set, and probability of events.
CLO 3) Students will construct truth tables, Venn Diagrams, bar graphs, histograms, line graphs, and pie charts.
CLO 4) Students will solve applications of percents, scientific notation, compound interest, loans, investments, linear and exponential growth, geometry, and trigonometry.
CLO 5) Students will recognize the connections between mathematics and other disciplines such as art, nature, and business.
