ESL 116 - Conversation & Current Events 1 Credit(s)
Conversation development based on current events, cultural issues and academic concerns. Vocabulary, spoken grammar skills and listening comprehension, will be emphasized.
Prereqs: INE 101 , INE 102 , INE 199 , placement above INE level or department permission Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will be able to describe at least three key concepts from videos, teacher lectures, student presentations, and other sources with 90% accuracy, as measured by a post-lesson quiz or oral presentation.
CLO 2) Students will be able to summarize current events using both formal and informal techniques, demonstrating at least 80% accuracy and understanding, as measured through peer review and teacher evaluation.
CLO 3) Students will be able to evaluate at least three research sources for reliability and credibility based on their citations and author qualifications, scoring at least 85% accuracy on a rubric assessing the quality and relevance of the sources.
CLO 4) Students wil be able to apply academic vocabulary correctly in spoken and written activities with at least 80% accuracy, as measured by a vocabulary usage rubric in both a written assignment and an oral presentation.
CLO 5) Students will be able to express opinions respectfully during discussions of current events in group and partner activities, as measured by a peer and teacher evaluation rubric.
