INE 102 - Intensive English: Listening & Speaking 3 Credit(s)
speaking skills in both academic and life-skills based situations. Activities will build students’ confidence in speaking English. Students will practice pronunciation and listen to English at word level, sentence level and in simple conversations. Vocabulary, terminology, idioms, slang, grammar and syntax will be taught implicitly and explicitly. Students will discuss, interpret and analyze short readings or videos. Both culture sharing and everyday conversational strategies and topics will be included.
Prereqs: INE 100 with a grade of C or better, a TOEFL score of over 50 or placement by ESL Department Chair Co-reqs: INE 101 and ESL 115 and INE 199 Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Remote, Flex Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will be able to generate possible solutions to today’s global problems in graded oral discussions, demonstrating 80% participation and critical thinking, as assessed through a rubric evaluating content, clarity, and engagement.
CLO 2) Students will be able to discuss cultural differences in a tactful and informative manner, demonstrating 80% proficiency, as graded by a rubric and teacher observation.
CLO 3) Students will be able to demonstrate increased confidence speaking in both small and large group settings, as measured by a survey with at least 80% positive responses at the end of the semester.
CLO 4) Students will be able to prepare and deliver intensive English level-appropriate presentations on cultural, socioeconomic, and personal issues, demonstrating 80% accuracy in content and delivery, as assessed by a presentation rubric.
CLO 5) Students will be able to identify non-verbal communication used in a variety of cultures, demonstrating 80% accuracy when provided with examples, as assessed through a quiz or discussion activity.
