GDS 230 - Digital Imaging & Illustration

Focus on the creation and digital manipulation of artwork & images increasing familiarity with basic tools used the design. Projects focus on artwork and logo creation, image correction and adjustment, combining imagery, color correction, etc. Discussion and demonstration of traditional printing technology. Review of legal issues related to digital imagery and freelance design included.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will create and organize digital images and illustrations for multiple types of media.
CLO 2) Students will demonstrate the basic use and operation of contemporary software for artwork creation, image manipulation, editing, illustration, and color correction.
CLO 3) Students will demonstrate proficiency in resizing and exporting artwork for various media, including understanding vectors vs. pixels and altering layouts for multiple file sizes.
CLO 4 ) Students will describe, compare, and contrast common print techniques and file preparations.
CLO 5) Students will employ responsible copyright and freelance practices.
CLO 6) Students will conceptualize, design, and create visually effective branding designs, focusing on visual problem solving and project documentation.
