GDS 210 - Visualization & Layout

This is a studio format course providing students an introduction to the digital tools and concepts of making visually based work across multiple platforms and working methods. The course focuses on composition and layout, investigating a range of design environments ranging from print, multi-page publishing, as well as interactive application formats. Basic graphic design concepts as well as design vocabulary are a fundamental part of the course content. Typography, the use of space, and traditional industry standards and practices will be included, as well as pre-press guidelines for both print and digital media.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will explore the basic tools of scanning / image import, handling, printing, file hygiene, & exporting for appropriate output strategies.
CLO 2) Students will demonstrate pre-visualization, research, and planning process of creative problem-solving.
CLO 3) Students will explain the fundamental vocabulary and basic concepts of layout/organization methodologies such as, but not limited, use of space, implementation of graphics & images, use of type, and other layout techniques.
CLO 4) Students will implement style sheets, typography, styles, and employ guidelines related content usage.
CLO 5) Students will prepare single & multi page documents for diverse methods of publication.
CLO 6) Students will assemble documents for printing by creating correctly formatted printed & digital formats.
