CHM 116 - General Chemistry II 5 Credit(s)
Continuation of Chemistry I. Includes study of chemical equilibria, acid-base chemistry, complex ions, thermodynamics, oxidation-reduction reactions, nuclear chemistry, and introduction to organic chemistry. Experiments continue to introduce and improve laboratory skills and problem solving.
Prereqs: CHM 115 with a grade of C or better and MAT 158 or higher with a grade of C or better or place into MAT 175 or higher Course Type: Combo Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Hybrid, Remote Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will perform calculations concerning colligative properties and concentrations, kinetics, chemical equilibria, acid-base equilibria, reduction-oxidation, chemical thermodynamics, and simple nuclear processes.
CLO 2) Students will explain intermolecular forces, properties of solutions, kinetics, equilibria, chemical thermodynamics, reduction-oxidation, elementary organic and nuclear chemistry reactions.
CLO 3) Students will analyze data through the creation of charts, graphs and tables.
CLO 4) Students will perform the appropriate calculations for procedures conducted in the lab, including any required concentration unit.
CLO 5) Students will make measurements that are accurate and precise using any required volumetric glassware or spectrophotometer.
CLO 6) Students will demonstrate appropriate and safe lab skills.
