CHM 203 - Survey of Organic Chemistry 5 Credit(s)
One-semester introduction to structure and bonding, functional group chemistry, principles of reactivity, reaction mechanism, and the molecules of life. Cannot be counted toward the Associate of Science in Chemistry Degree.
Prereqs: CHM 115 with a grade of C or higher Course Type: Combo Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will analyze the structures of organic molecules.
CLO 2) Students will apply the rules of systematic nomenclature to name organic molecules.
CLO 3) Students will predict the major product of organic reactions.
CLO 4) Students will safely perform standard laboratory techniques for the purification of organic compounds, including distillation, recrystallization, column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, and extraction.
CLO 5) Students will measure the infrared spectrum of an unknown solid or liquid.
CLO 6) Students will identify the functional groups present for an infrared spectrum of an unknown solid or liquid.
