Basic functions of public relations in the public and private sector. Emphasis is on history, case studies, and writing, including press releases, media plans and speeches. Media role in public relations, and role in shaping and swaying public opinion. Specific jobs and emphasis areas are covered.

CLO 2) Students will describe the historical development of public relations and the ethical, legal, and career considerations in the field.
CLO 3) Students will explain the steps in the public relations process, including research, planning, communication/action, and evaluation.
CLO 4) Students will summarize how public relations operates in sectors such as corporations, government, education, nonprofits, sports, entertainment, and international contexts.
CLO 5) Students will apply written, spoken, and visual communication strategies to reach targeted audiences and support organizational goals.
