Introduction to a wide variety of available youth services including, but not limited to education, juvenile courts, substance use treatment, and residential care. Addresses needs and issues of at-risk youth, their families, schools and communities. Review of organization, functions and jurisdiction of juvenile agencies and courts.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will describe the organization, functions, and jurisdiction of the juvenile justice system, including how it differs from the adult criminal justice system.
CLO 2) Students will examine the needs and challenges faced by at-risk youth, their families, schools, and communities, including contributing social and environmental factors.
CLO 3) Students will identify and explain the organization, functions, and jurisdiction of services available to at-risk youth and their support systems, including substance use disorder treatment and residential care programs.
CLO 4) Students will describe the plea, adjudication, and sentencing options available to juveniles involved in the justice system.
CLO 5) Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to integrate crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and person-centered strategies when working with at-risk youth.
CLO 6) Students will evaluate ethical principles and decision-making frameworks relevant to professional practice with juvenile populations.
