Basic rules of evidence applicable to criminal and other related police duties. Examines fundamental questions of evidence and theories of proof, including hearsay, documentary proof, self- incrimination, relevance, and presumptions.

CLO 1) Students will define key legal terms and foundational principles related to the admissibility of evidence in criminal and civil proceedings.
CLO 2) Students will explain the purpose and function of evidentiary rules, including relevance, materiality, and competence of evidence.
CLO 3) Students will apply rules governing hearsay, character evidence, and privileges to hypothetical case scenarios.
CLO 4) Students will analyze courtroom procedures for introducing evidence and objecting to inadmissible testimony or exhibits.
CLO 5) Students will evaluate the credibility and reliability of various types of evidence, including physical, testimonial, documentary, and digital evidence.
CLO 6) Students will construct evidentiary arguments or motions that demonstrate proper legal reasoning and adherence to applicable rules of evidence.
