EGR 220 - Circuit Analysis I 3 Credit(s)
Application of advanced mathematics (calculus and differential equations) to the understanding of circuits and circuit elements. Topics include network components and properties, node voltages and mesh currents, signal models, first order circuits, and second order circuits.
Prereqs: MAT 230 with a passing grade Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will explain fundamental electrical quantities, including charge, current, voltage, power, and energy, and their interrelationships in DC circuits.
CLO 2) Students will characterize common passive circuit components (resistors, capacitors, inductors) and active components (independent and dependent sources), including their behavior in DC circuits.
CLO 3) Students will apply Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law (KVL), and Kirchhoff’s Current Law (KCL) to analyze and solve for unknown quantities in DC circuits.
CLO 4) Students will apply circuit theorems (e.g., superposition, Thevenin’s, Norton’s) to analyze and simplify DC circuits.
CLO 5) Students will determine the transient response of first-order RC and RL circuits and second-order RLC circuits, including the calculation of time constants and analysis of charging and discharging phenomena.
CLO 6) Students will design solutions to open-ended circuit problems by integrating theoretical understanding with practical analytical and simulation techniques.
