EGR 104 - Engineering Design 3 Credit(s)
This course introduces students to essential tools and techniques for designing engineering projects in a team setting. Activities include project planning, physical design with CAD, data analysis, and technical communication. Topics covered include scheduling, budgeting, decision analysis, basic charting/statistics, data interpretation, modeling, and effective communication with technical and non-technical audiences. A team project is used requiring significant team member interaction outside of class. CAD, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are also learned and utilized.
Prereqs: MAT 105 with a passing grade Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will apply a systematic engineering design process, from problem definition and ideation to prototyping, testing, and refinement, to solve open-ended engineering problems.
CLO 2) Students will utilize fundamental engineering tools and software, including Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for design visualization and spreadsheets for data analysis and modeling, to support the design process.
CLO 3) Students will evaluate design solutions based on technical feasibility, performance criteria, ethical considerations, and societal impact.
CLO 4) Students will communicate design concepts, progress, and results effectively through professional technical documents (e.g., reports, specifications) and oral presentations to diverse audiences.
CLO 5) Students will collaborate effectively within a project team, demonstrating strong communication and project management skills to complete a semester-long design challenge.
