ESL 115C - ESL Community as Class Lab C

The course corresponds to the students’ appropriate level of English skills, growing progressively more challenging and advanced at each level. Includes writing and conversation labs. Features field trips, opportunities for campus interaction, tutoring, guest speakers, independent work in the community, and practice on ESL computer learning platforms. Students may choose opportunities best tailored to their needs and schedules. Students who take this course for credit may have extra required workshops/labs. This course is aimed at students with low to middle intermediate English skills, in general ESL Level 1.

Co-reqs: Corequisite to all classes that begin with ESL/INE/ECI prefixes. Once enrolled in ESL, the students should be automatically enrolled in the correct level of ESL 115  labs offered at one credit.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will be able to employ technology effectively to enhance their English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, as measured by the completion of appropriate-level technology-assisted tasks with 85% accuracy.
CLO 2) Students will be able to demonstrate enhanced auditory and fluency skills, as evidenced by a 10% increase in accuracy on skills-based assessments after engaging in listening and speaking activities.
CLO 3) Students will be able to expand their cultural knowledge of the United States and each other’s countries, as demonstrated by an appropriate-level cultural comparison project with at least 80% accuracy in content and analysis.
CLO 4) Students wil be able to exhibit increased proficiency in spoken and written English, shown by a 10% improvement in fluency, accuracy, and clarity, as assessed through a rubric and self-assessment in classroom, campus, and community settings.
CLO 5) Students will be able to apply level-appropriate linguistic concepts to improve their overall English proficiency, demonstrating readiness to progress to the next level of ESL, as measured by a proficiency assessment with a score of 76% or higher.
