Examines U.S. history from the perspective of African Americans, highlighting black leadership, contributions to U.S. society and culture, and places the African-American narrative in context of the larger U.S. history. Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will describe social institutions, structures, and processes in development of the African American experience from African civilizations and American colonization to the Civil War and Reconstruction.
CLO 2) Students will place and compare the African American experience to other American cultures or experiences within the context of larger American social, political, and economic institutions, structures, processes.
CLO 3) Students will articulate the interconnectedness of the people, places, and cultures from around the globe that contributed to the African American experience.
CLO 4) Students will explain the United States Constitution and Missouri State Constitution, with special focus on the effects on African Americans.
CLO 5) Students will describe the impact of the historical African American experience on current issues and trends within the larger black community.
CLO 6) Students will analyze the African American experience within the context of US and global history to hypothesize the origins and influences of that experience.
