Examines U.S. history from the perspective of African Americans, highlighting black leadership, contributions to U.S. society and culture, and places the African-American narrative in context of the larger U.S. history. Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will describe social institutions, structures, and processes in development of the African American experience from Reconstruction and the Civil War to the present.
CLO 2) Students will compare the African American experience to other American cultures within broader social, political, and economic contexts, while examining global influences that shaped the post-1877 African American experience
CLO 3) Students will explain the United States Constitution and Missouri State Constitution, with special focus on the effects on African Americans.
CLO 4) Students will describe the impact of the historical African American experience on current issues and trends within the larger black community.
CLO 5) Students will analyze the African American experience within the context of US and global history to hypothesize the origins and influences of that experience.
CLO 6) Students will implement psychological and sociological theories and methods to understand the impact of African American and United States institutions in the development of African American culture.
