Introductory course for non-music majors. Presents main elements of music, how they develop and change throughout history, and the role of music in society. Emphasis on understanding musical elements and aural applications. Attendance required at live performances.

CLO 2) Students will analyze the defining characteristics of major historical style periods and compare their compositional practices.
CLO 3) Students will examine and interpret the musical contributions of significant composers and how their styles evolved within or in response to Classical traditions.
CLO 4) Students will evaluate the influence of Classical music on American and global musical forms, including popular and media-based genres.
CLO 5) Students will analyze and explain the social and cultural forces that have shaped the development and reception of Classical music.
CLO 6) Students will demonstrate written communication skills by using Classical music topics to express, reflect, and apply musical vocabulary and concepts.
