MUS 132 - Music Theory II 3 Credit(s)
Continuation of MUS 131 including secondary triads, seventh chords, secondary dominants, elementary modulation, figured bass, and keyboard harmony.
Prereqs: MUS 131 or MUS 131S, MUS 133, & MUS 119 with a “C” or better Co-reqs: MUS 134 & MUS 120 Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will write 4-part SATB progressions in root position and inversions using Western Tonal part-writing guidelines.
CLO 2) Students will recognize and apply the Circle of Fifths harmonic progression in both Major and Minor modes.
CLO 3) Students will utilize 6/4 chords and diatonic 7th chords, including Dominant 7ths, according to Western Tonal conventions.
CLO 4) Students will classify and apply basic and extended non-harmonic tones within tonal contexts.
CLO 5) Students will analyze basic elements of musical form, including cadences, phrases, period forms, and sentences.
CLO 6) Students will compose 2-part tonal counterpoint following established tonal guidelines.
