MUS 295 - Opera Theater Workshop 1 Credit(s)
This course will provide the student with the skills needed to successfully learn and perform in an operatic setting. The areas to be covered include acting, movement, musicianship, artistic interpretation, and role preparation. Technique will be discussed as necessary, but that is mainly reserved for students’ primary voice teacher. Offered in Fall only. May be repeated to meet the multi-term degree requirements.
Prereqs: Instructor permission Course Type: Studio/Performance Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will apply audition techniques by selecting appropriate operatic repertoire, analyze lyrics and musical phrasing for expressive interpretation, and evaluate stylistic elements to adapt performances across various musical periods.
CLO 2) Students will apply physical and expressive acting techniques in operatic performance, analyze character and dramatic context to inform interpretation, and create compelling performances that integrate musical and theatrical elements.
