PHE 245 - Nutrition for Sport Performance 3 Credit(s)
Nutrition concepts and components are the focus as they relate to physical activity, sport performance and the athlete. The course integrates nutrition and exercise science into one format that provides sound and practical sport nutrition and performance principles and guidelines.
Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Remote, Online Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will identify the basic elements of nutrition and describe how they affect exercise and sport performance.
CLO 2) Students will discuss the role nutrients, supplements, and ergogenic aids have on the energy systems and performance.
CLO 3) Students will recognize the role nutrition plays in body composition and eating disorders.
CLO 4) Students will develop multiple nutrition plans that incorporate strategies for making positive changes to enhance performance and manage body composition.
CLO 5) Students will describe and apply basic principles of fluid balance for optimal health and performance.
CLO 6) Students will explain the importance of healthful eating and physical movement in chronic and acute disease prevention and identify the nutrient adjustments needed to support optimal health throughout the lifecycle of an athlete.
