PHY 125 - Introduction to Physical Geology 3 Credit(s)
Introduces a basic understanding of topics in physical geology including the unifying theory of plate tectonics, discussions of Earth materials (rocks and minerals), internal processes (volcanism, earthquakes), surface processes (surface and ground water, weathering, erosion), and geologic time. Campus outings will be incorporated to emphasize Missouri geology.
Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Online, Remote CORE42 MOTR Number - Name: MOTR GEOL 100 - Geology (Lecture Only) Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will describe the concepts of motion, forces, energy, and waves.
CLO 2) Students will describe the concepts of elements and matter in terms of crustal materials.
CLO 3) Students will describe Earth’s internal structure and the dynamic nature of tectonic plates.
CLO 4) Students will express an understanding of the linked Earth: geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere system.
CLO 5) Students will describe the physical and chemical properties of the lithosphere and hydrosphere (minerals, rocks, soils, and water).
CLO 6) Students will diagram geologic time and earth history.
