PSY 220 - Personality Theories 3 Credit(s)
Study of major theories of personality with emphasis on developmental influence and integration of behavior. Theories surveyed represent dynamic, humanistic, cognitive and behavioral perspectives. Issues such as self- concept, structure of personality, social adjustment, self-management and maladjustment and therapy are considered within context of each theoretical system.
Prereqs: PSY 101 with a passing grade Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Online Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will demonstrate an introductory knowledge of the principles of personality psychology, which will help them to understand people and their behavior.
CLO 2) Students will demonstrate a basic understanding of how to think scientifically about human personality.
CLO 3) Students will demonstrate a sound knowledge of critical thinking skills used in examining personality and solving everyday problems concerning personality.
CLO 4) Students will compare and contrast major personality theories including psychoanalytic (Freud, Neo-Freudian, ego theories), trait and biological, humanistic, social-behavioral, cognitive, and interactionist approaches to understand their distinctive contributions to personality psychology.
CLO 5) Students will apply key concepts from multiple personality theories to analyze real-world scenarios and evaluate their practical utility in understanding human behavior and individual differences.
