PSY 216 - Abnormal Psychology 3 Credit(s)
This course surveys the history, theories, etiology, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of the spectrum of psychological disorders such as anxiety disorders, mood disorders, childhood & adolescence disorders. This course will include theories, clinical assessment & diagnosis using DSM V classification system. Prerequisites: PSY -101.
Prereqs: PSY 101 with a passing grade Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Remote, Online, Service Learning Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will explain major psychological concepts and theoretical perspectives about the field of abnormal psychology and major psychological problems and disorders.
CLO 2) Students will describe the multiple causes of psychopathology as viewed from several different theoretical perspectives including Psychodynamic, biological, psychological, and sociocultural models.
CLO 3) Students will compare and contrast the intervention and prevention strategies for psychological disorders.
CLO 4) Students will analyze empirically based causes of psychopathology across different theoretical perspectives and synthesize this knowledge to develop original ideas or research in selected areas.
