Examination of the social, economic, cultural and individual factors in health, healing, and illness. Topics include epidemiology, wellness and disability, U.S. and global health-care systems, physician-nurse-patient relationships, medical costs, ethics, and alternative medical practices.

Prereqs: Placement into ENG 101 or a Passing grade in ENG 096.

CLO 1) Students compare and contrast the medical and sociological models of illness to demonstrate understanding of their fundamental differences and applications.

CLO 4) Students will recognize critical issues in bioethics and their implications for healthcare practice and policy.
