SOC 210 - The Sociology of Health & Healthcare 3 Credit(s)
Examination of the social, economic, cultural and individual factors in health, healing, and illness. Topics include epidemiology, wellness and disability, U.S. and global health-care systems, physician-nurse-patient relationships, medical costs, ethics, and alternative medical practices.
Prereqs: Placement into ENG 101 or a Passing grade in ENG 096 . Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Remote Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students compare and contrast the medical and sociological models of illness to demonstrate understanding of their fundamental differences and applications.
CLO 2) Students will identify the major components of the social distribution of health and illness across different populations and social groups.
CLO 3) Students will evaluate the ways in which medicine serves as a form of social control within society and its institutions.
CLO 4) Students will recognize critical issues in bioethics and their implications for healthcare practice and policy.
