SRT 102 - Medical Terminology for Surgical Technologists 2 Credit(s)
This course provides surgical technician students with a systematic approach to understanding medical language. Students will develop skills in constructing, pronouncing, and interpreting medical terminology specific to surgical procedures and healthcare settings. Through intensive study of word components, students will learn to decode medical terms, understand their meaning, and apply them effectively in professional communication.
Prereqs: Admission to the Surgical Technology Program Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Tier III Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will identify the etymological origins of medical terms and their relationships to human anatomy, surgical procedures, and medical conditions.
CLO 2) Students will interpret medical terminology by their structural components (word roots, prefixes, and suffixes) to determine their clinical significance in surgical and healthcare environments.
CLO 3) Students will synthesize medical language components to articulate medical concepts accurately, demonstrating proper pronunciation and contextual understanding of surgical terminology.
CLO 4) Students will apply medical abbreviations and terminology in written and verbal communication within surgical and medical documentation contexts.
