WLD 121 - Shielded Metal Arc Welding I **

In this course students will learn the basic skills and knowledge needed to set up Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) equipment, choose appropriate electrodes, and perform SMAW operations on carbon steel. Students will have an opportunity to sit for the American Welding Society (AWS) certifications tests. Students will be awarded the certificate if successful on the exams.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO1) Students will define and describe the hazards associated with welding, thermal cutting and the lab environment with special emphasis on shielded metal arc welding.

CLO 2) Students will define and describe the hazards associated with welding, thermal cutting and the lab environment. Special emphasis on Shielded Metal Arc Welding.

CLO 3) Students will define and describe the importance of the PPE required for the SMAW.

CLO 4) Students will describe and define the importance of SMAW ventilation systems.

CLO 5) Students will prepare, fabricate, and weld coupons for practical exams pursuant to the AWS SENSE program.
