MAT 158S - College Algebra - General Education with Supplement 5 Credit(s)
This course satisfies the general education requirement for the AA degree. Designed for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and Business majors requiring higher levels of mathematics for degree requirements. Topics include linear and quadratic equations and inequalities; complex numbers and solution of higher degree polynomial equations; systems of linear equations; matrices; graphing functions including exponential, logarithmic, rational and polynomial functions, sequences, and series. Students may not receive credit for both MAT 158S and MAT 171 .
Prereqs: Placement into MAT 158S or a grade of C or higher in MAT 121 . Course Type: Combo Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Remote Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will use multiple representations of functions to interpret and describe properties of functions.
CLO 2) Students will use multiple representations of functions to describe how two quantities change together.
CLO 3) Students will create, use, and interpret linear equations and convert between forms as appropriate.
CLO 4) Students will create, use, and interpret exponential and logarithmic equations and convert between forms as appropriate.
CLO 5) Students will create, graph, apply, and interpret polynomial, power and rational functions.
CLO 6) Students will construct, use, and describe transformations, operations, compositions, and inverses of functions.
CLO 7) Students will use algebraic techniques to simplify and expand expressions.
CLO 8) Students will use algebraic reasoning to solve equations.
