ETC 102 - DC Fundamentals

This course provides an in-depth study of direct current (DC) electrical theory, including electrical charges, voltage, current, power, and the relationships between them.  The students will develop skills to ensure safety protocols, while performing hands-on applications using basic electronic test equipment. The course prepares students for further study in electrical technology or related careers.

Prereqs: MAT 096   with a grade of P (Pass) or placement into MAT 098  or higher

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will describe the concepts of atomic theory, current flow, and the properties of conductors, insulators, and semiconductors.

CLO 2)  Students will describe the operational differences between series, parallel, and series-parallel DC circuits. 

CLO 3) Students will calculate current, voltage, resistance, and power in DC circuits using Ohm’s Law and the power formulas. 

CLO 4)  Students will use standard electronic test equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, power supplies) to measure and verify circuit parameters in a lab setting. 

CLO 5) Students will implement and construct functional DC circuits on a breadboard based on schematic diagrams.

CLO 6)  Students will analyze complex series-parallel DC circuits using Kirchhoff’s Laws (KVL and KCL) and other network theorems (e.g., Thevenin’s, Norton’s, Superposition).
