PLB 160 - Gas, Fuel, & Water Heating Systems ** 3 Credit(s)
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install, service, and maintain gas, fuel, and water heating systems used in residential and commercial applications. Topics include combustion principles, fuel types, water heater design, venting requirements, safety standards, and code compliance. Students will gain hands‑on experience with system components such as burners, controls, tanks, and piping connections. Emphasis is placed on efficiency, safety, and troubleshooting techniques to ensure reliable operation of heating systems. Certifications will be offered through NC3 Ridgid.

CLO 2) Student will interpret plumbing and mechanical codes related to heating system installation and operation.
CLO 3) Student will select appropriate materials, fittings, and equipment for heating system installation.
CLO 4) Student will install and connect gas, fuel, and water heating systems following industry best practices and safety guidelines.
CLO 5) Student will apply proper venting and exhaust methods to ensure safe system operation.
CLO 6) Student will troubleshoot and repair common heating system problems such as ignition failure, leaks, and inadequate heating.
