ETC 105 - Electrical Codes & Standards **

This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of electrical codes and standards used in residential, commercial, and industrial installations. Emphasis is placed on interpreting and applying the National Electrical Code (NEC), along with relevant local and state codes. Students will develop the ability to locate, interpret, and apply code requirements related to wiring methods, overcurrent protection, grounding and bonding, conductor sizing, and installation of equipment. Through practical exercises and real-world scenarios, students will gain the skills necessary to ensure code-compliant installations and prepare for journeyman licensure exams.

CLO 1) Students will explain the purpose and scope of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and how it applies to electrical installations.

CLO 2) Students will navigate the NEC codebook efficiently using the index, table of contents, and chapter structure.

CLO 3) Students will identify and apply code requirements related to wiring methods, breakers, bonding, grounding, fuses, and service.

CLO 4) Students will interpret and apply local and state electrical codes in conjunction with the NEC.

CLO 5) Students will perform load and service calculations using NEC tables and formulas.

CLO 6) Students will demonstrate code compliance through evaluating example electrical diagrams, panel schedules, and installation plans.
