RNFA 200 - Registered Nurse First Assistant 3 Credit(s)
This AORN-approved RN First Assistant course prepares perioperative nurses for an expanded role in surgical settings, providing them with the knowledge and skills to assist surgeons during procedures. The course will cover topics such as surgical anatomy and physiology, aseptic technique, wound healing, various surgical procedures, and the RNFA’s scope of practice, with the use of in-person lecture, hands-on-labs, and online learning modules.
Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Tier III Delivery Method: Hybrid Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will describe the specific responsibilities and authority of an RNFA, including collaboration with surgeons and other healthcare professionals.
CLO 2) Students will explain the principles of asepsis, infection control, wound healing, and the nursing process as it applies to the perioperative patient.
CLO 3) Students will identify and mitigate surgical hazards, ensuring patient safety during and after surgery.
CLO 4) Students will analyze various surgical procedures-including general, urologic, gynecologic, neurologic, cardiovascular, and orthopedic surgery-and relate them to the corresponding anatomy and physiology.
