BUS 220 - Principles of Finance 3 Credit(s)
Basics of financial analysis, forecasting, operating and financial leverage, working capital, current asset management, short-term financing, time value concepts and practices, and cost of capital equity financing, dividend policy, convertible bonds, warrants, and options. Includes role of financial manager in organization.
Prereqs: BUS 101 and MAT 097 with a passing grade or placement into MAT 121 or higher Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Online Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will define and explain the primary financial objectives of the firm, the role of financial management, and the basics of international financial markets and exchange rates.
CLO 2) Students will apply the mathematics of finance and use financial calculators to solve problems involving time value of money, annuities, and other financial computations.
CLO 3) Students will perform and interpret financial ratio analysis to assess firm performance and financial health.
CLO 4) Students will evaluate financial securities, including stocks and bonds, by analyzing valuation methods, risk, and return characteristics.
CLO 5) Students will analyze capital budgeting decisions using free cash flow analysis and evaluate investment projects using techniques such as NPV and IRR.
CLO 6) Students will calculate a firm’s cost of capital and explain how capital structure and dividend policy decisions impact firm value.
