BUS 246 - Legal Environment of Business 3 Credit(s)
Introduction to general nature of law and how its meaning affects climate in which a business operates. Exploration of role of government and government’s attitude toward business, antitrust legislation and enforcement, public control through taxation, regulation, competition, mergers, and commerce/trade restrictions. Covers freedom of contract and labor/management relations.
Prereqs: BUS 101 with a passing grade Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Online Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will identify and explain the foundational legal principles and regulatory frameworks within which businesses operate in the United States.
CLO 2) Students will analyze the elements and enforceability of valid contracts, and apply contract law concepts to business scenarios.
CLO 3) Students will evaluate the legal implications of torts and criminal acts in a business context, including liability for intentional and unintentional harm.
CLO 4) Students will apply federal employment laws to workplace decision-making, including hiring, training, evaluating, and terminating employees.
CLO 5) Students will interpret and apply securities regulations to corporate decision-making related to issuing and trading shares.
CLO 6) Students will analyze legal considerations in business expansion, including antitrust compliance and international legal challenges.
