CAD 274 - GD&T with AutoCAD 3 Credit(s)
In this course, students will use the latest version of AutoCAD to apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). They will develop a thorough understanding of drafting symbols, tolerance calculations, datums, material conditions, and material boundaries. Students will also learn to apply tolerances related to form, orientation, and location, as well as gain insight into profile and runout tolerances.
Prereqs: CAD 104 with a passing grade Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Tier I Delivery Method: In-Person, Remote, Flex Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will explain tolerance concepts, including limits, specified dimensions, maximum material condition (MMC), least material condition (LMC), and extreme form variation.
CLO 2) Students will utilize geometric characteristic symbols, material condition symbols, datum feature symbols, feature control frames, basic dimension symbols, and dimensioning symbols.
CLO 3) Students will identify different datum features (e.g., high point contact, datum reference frame, datum axis, partial datums, datum center plane).
CLO 4) Students will differentiate between maximum material condition (MMC) and least material condition (LMC) and its applications regardless of feature size/material boundary.
CLO 5) Students will define and apply geometric characteristics such as straightness, flatness, circularity, cylindricity, profile, parallelism, perpendicularity, angularity, and runout.
CLO 6) Students will explain positional tolerance at MMC and zero positional tolerance. Apply concepts like virtual condition, projected tolerance zone, composite positional tolerance, two single-segment feature control frames, concentricity, and symmetry.
