EDU 242 - Art for Children


3 Credit(s)

This course is designed to introduce students to various art, media, and methods that are most appropriate for integration into early childhood, elementary and middle school classrooms. Students will develop a variety of projects which promote children’s appreciation of art. Additionally students will create lesson plans and project-based learning assignments, for cross-curricular integration of Art into PK-8 classrooms.

Prereqs: EDU 101  with a C or better

CLO 1)  Students will describe the purpose and importance of visual arts education in PK-8 classrooms.
CLO 2)  Students will identify key vocabulary, tools, materials, and core concepts in the visual arts.
CLO 3)  Students will explain stages of children’s artistic development relevant to curriculum planning.
CLO 4)  Students will apply elements of art and principles of design in age-appropriate instructional activities.
CLO 5) Students will develop lesson plans that integrate visual arts across the curriculum to support all learners.
CLO 6)  Students will create original artwork using a variety of media and techniques suitable for classroom use.
