SRT 104 - Anesthesia & Pharmacology for Surgical Technologists

This course is designed to introduce the student to the use, preparation, and handling of medications in the surgical environment. The rationale for the use of specific drugs, their therapeutic effects, major side effects on the surgical patient, and how they may alter or influence surgical intervention will be defined.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will describe anesthesia administration principles and the interactions between pharmacological agents, patient physiological responses, and clinical monitoring techniques.

CLO 2) Students will compare diverse anesthesia methods, agents, and administration techniques across various surgical scenarios.

CLO 3) Students will apply medication management skills by calculating precise dosage conversions, preparing surgical medications, and implementing patient care protocols.

CLO 4) Students will explain patient monitoring devices by and their functional mechanisms, clinical applications, and correlation with patient homeostasis.
