WLD 241 - Flux Cored Arc Welding II ** 3 Credit(s)
This course expands on the techniques learned in WLD 141 . Advanced welding techniques in Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) required of AWS Advanced level welders will be covered. Students will have an opportunity to sit for the American Welding Society (AWS) certifications tests. Students will be awarded the certificate if successful on the exams.
Prereqs: WLD 141 with a passing grade Course Type: Combo Tuition Tier: Tier II Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will demonstrate understanding of machine setup, proper cover gas selection, electrode and wire, materials, and techniques through a written exam provided by the AWS.
CLO 2) Students will identify and describe the hazards associated with welding in the lab environment.
CLO 3) Students will define and explain the importance of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and demonstrate proper use in the lab.
CLO 4) Students will describe and explain the importance of ventilation systems, emphasizing the health concerns related to toxic gases and vapors in welding shops.
CLO 5) Students will prepare, fabricate, and weld coupons for practical exams pursuant to the AWS SENSE program. These practical exams will be inspected by a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and may undergo destructive testing to ensure a sound weld.
