HVAC 160 - Residential HVAC Installation **

This course is designed to show students how to assess residential mechanical systems and determine what it takes to make them more efficient. In this course, students will learn how to calculate heat gain and heat loss for the purpose of new installation or replacement systems, as well as remove existing equipment and install, charge, and start-up new equipment. Students in this course are eligible to sit for NC3 certifications. Students who are successful in passing the exam will earn certification.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will safely install HVAC equipment including air handlers, condensers, evaporator coils, line sets, gas piping, and thermostats.

CLO 2) Students will perform electrical and refrigerant line connections according to manufacturer specifications and local codes.

CLO 3) Students will charge systems with refrigerant, evacuate lines, and verify proper operation using gauges and meters.

CLO 4) Students will apply OSHA safety standards and EPA regulations during all phases of HVAC installation.

CLO 5) Students will conduct system startup and performance testing while ensuring code compliance and manufacturer warranty standards.

CLO 6) Students will perform post-installation inspections and diagnostics to ensure optimal operation.
