ELE 120 - Electrical Testing & Troubleshooting **

This course equips students with the knowledge and hands-on skills required to test, diagnose, and repair electrical systems safely and effectively. Students will learn to use industry-standard tools and techniques to identify faults in wiring, devices, circuits, and control systems. Emphasis is placed on interpreting test results, applying logical troubleshooting methods, and complying with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and OSHA safety standards. Through real-world scenarios and lab-based exercises, students will develop the confidence and precision needed to solve electrical problems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. All students will have the opportunity to earn NC3 Greenlee certification.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will explain the principles of electrical testing including voltage, current, resistance, and continuity.

CLO 2)Students will identify common electrical faults such as short circuits, open circuits, ground faults, and overloads.

CLO 3) Students will identify the function and limitations of various testing instruments (e.g., multimeters, clamp meters, megohmmeters, circuit tracers).

CLO 4) Students will safely operate electrical test equipment to evaluate system performance and identify faults.

CLO 5) Students will perform continuity, polarity, voltage drop, and insulation resistance tests on wiring and components.

CLO 6) Students will apply systematic troubleshooting techniques to isolate and resolve electrical issues.
