ELE 200 - Commercial Wiring Theory **

This course introduces students to the principles, practices, and standards of electrical wiring in commercial buildings. Students will learn to install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical systems in environments such as offices, retail spaces, schools, and industrial facilities. Emphasis is placed on conduit bending, panelboard installation, three-phase systems, lighting controls, and compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). Through hands-on labs and real-world scenarios, students will develop the skills needed to work safely and effectively as commercial electricians, preparing them for apprenticeships, licensure, or direct entry into the workforce. All students will have the opportunity to earn NC3 Greenlee certification.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will explain the differences between residential and commercial electrical systems, including voltage levels, load types, and wiring methods.

CLO 2) Students will describe components used in commercial installations such as transformers, panelboards, motor controls, and lighting systems.

CLO 3) Students will interpret commercial electrical blueprints, riser diagrams, and specifications.

CLO 4) Students will install conduit systems (EMT, RMC, PVC) using proper bending, threading, and support techniques.

CLO 5) Students will wire and terminate devices including switches, receptacles, lighting fixtures, and control systems in commercial settings.

CLO 6) Students will configure and install three-phase power systems and understand their applications in commercial environments.
