RNFA 220 - RNFA Practicum 3 Credit(s)
The RN First Assistant Practicum prepares registered nurses for the expanded role of surgical first assistant, while focusing on perioperative and interoperative care. It emphasizes advanced, surgical assisting skills, patient safety, and collaboration between surgical teams, while under the supervision of a board certified surgeon, in an operating room setting.
Prereqs: RNFA 200 with a passing grade Course Type: Practicum Tuition Tier: Tier III Delivery Method: In-Person CORE42 MOTR Number - Name: N/A Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will demonstrate hands-on skills in scrubbing, draping, retracting, tissue handling, suturing, wound closure, and using surgical instruments.
CLO 2) Students will utilize communication skills with surgeons and other team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
CLO 3) Students will participate in practical experiences in the operating room under the guidance of a board-certified surgeon or preceptor.
CLO 4) Students will demonstrate RNFA skills through case studies and the creation of a surgical case portfolio.
