IT 281 - DevOps Technologies

This course prepares students for the LPI DevOps Tools Engineer Exam 701, by focusing on the practical skills needed to manage modern infrastructure and services. Students will gain hands-on experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), virtual and cloud-based machine deployment (Vagrant, Terraform), configuration management (Ansible, Puppet), and service monitoring and operations (Prometheus, Grafana). Emphasizing automation, scalability, and reliability, the course equips learners to build and maintain efficient DevOps environments using open-source tools and best practices.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will deploy containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes, including orchestration, scaling, and networking of containers in production environments.

CLO 2) Students will automate the provisioning of virtual and cloud-based infrastructure using tools such as Vagrant and Terraform to support scalable and repeatable deployments.

CLO 3) Students will implement configuration management solutions with Ansible and Puppet to ensure consistent system states across diverse environments.

CLO 4) Students will analyze system and service performance using Prometheus and Grafana, enabling proactive incident response and operational visibility.

CLO 5) Students will apply DevOps principles to streamline infrastructure workflows, emphasizing automation, version control, and collaboration across development and operations teams.

CLO 6) Students will demonstrate proficiency in using open-source DevOps tools and applying best practices to effectively manage, automate, and monitor modern IT infrastructure in preparation for the LPI DevOps Tools Engineer Exam 701.
