EXS 250 - Exercise Science Capstone ** 1 Credit(s)
In this capstone course students will explore careers and current job opportunities in the field of exercise science, engage in resume building and mock interview activites, and research the potential industry-recognized certifications they may pursue*. Additionally, through the development of a capstone project students will specifically build upon their ability to assess a client and design a holistic exercise and nutrition plan for an individual who presents with a diagnosis for a common pathology such as heart disease, hypertension, or diabetes, or who presents with an injury, disorder, or disability that affects musculoskeletal function.
*Potential certifications include American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), the American Council of Exercise (ACE), National Council on Strength & Fitness (NCSF) and the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
Co-reqs: EXS 230 or EXS 240 Course Type: Capstone Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will engage in activities designed to prepare them for employment including researching potential certifications, utilizing career exploration and job search tools, employing social media in the hiring process, writing cover letters and resume building, and practicing job interview skills.
CLO 2) Students will utilize client-related pertinent health histories and assessment results to design a holistic and evidence-based nutrition, cardiorespiratory, flexibility, balance, and muscular fitness program for an assigned special population group.
