ESL 113 - Advanced Vocabulary for Special Purposes for Non-Native Speakers 1 Credit(s)
Concentration on teaching students vocabulary for one interest or career area, they will delve deeply into the usage, connotations, meanings, spelling and context of specialized words, slang or jargon. Online learning will be included. Recommended to be taken with ECI 299.
Prereqs: INE 101 , INE 102 , INE 199 or placement in ESL classes Co-reqs: ESL 106 , ESL 108 ECI 299 and ESL 109 (recommended but not required) Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person, Remote Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will be able to pronounce words in the specialized area correctly, after practicing and seeking help with ‘trouble’ words from the professor/tutor, measured by demonstrating 80% accuracy as assessed through oral assessments.
CLO 2) Students will be able to comprehend conversations using specialized vocabulary by demonstrating 80% accuracy in identifying key information, as assessed through listening tests or real-time conversations.
CLO 3) Students will be able to produce a final writing product, such as an essay, report, or presentation, using the specialized vocabulary they have learned in class, demonstrating 80% accuracy in vocabulary usage, as assessed by a grading rubric.
CLO 4) Students will be able to demonstrate a 80% or greater improvement in the accuracy of vocabulary related to a specific career or study area, as measured by a pre-test and post-test.
