Continuation of MUS 132 . Including secondary functions 1 and 2, modulations, Binary and Ternary Form.
Prereqs: MUS 132 , MUS 134 , & MUS 120 with a “C” or better. Co-reqs: MUS 283 & MUS 219 Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will utilize root position and inverted triads and seventh chords to write Western Tonal four-part chordal phrases.
CLO 2) Students will analyze three- and four-part musical excerpts using Roman Numerals with correct chord qualities and figured bass symbols.
CLO 3) Students will translate between Roman Numeral analysis and Lead Sheet Symbols to demonstrate harmonic understanding.
CLO 4) Students will identify and create chromatic elements and complex secondary functions within a diatonic framework.
CLO 5) Students will determine and apply modulation techniques using both diatonic and chromatic approaches.
CLO 6) Students will recognize and describe altered chords, borrowed harmonies, and large-scale formal structures such as binary, ternary, sonata, and rondo forms.
