Continuation of MUS 281 .
Prereqs: MUS 281 , MUS 283 , & MUS 219 with a “C” or better. Co-reqs: MUS 284 & MUS 220 Course Type: Lecture Tuition Tier: Base Delivery Method: In-Person Course Learning Outcomes: CLO 1) Students will communicate their understanding of the relationships between relative keys, borrowed chords, and altered harmonies.
CLO 2) Students will recognize, label, and notate altered chords such as Augmented 6ths, Neapolitans, and Raised Dominants.
CLO 3) Students will identify and interpret enharmonic modulations involving Major-minor sonorities and the Diminished 7th chord.
CLO 4) Students will utilize extended tertian harmonies and systematic harmonic procedures such as mediant chains.
CLO 5) Students will analyze scale materials, chord structures, and rhythmic elements characteristic of Impressionist music.
CLO 6) Students will demonstrate foundational knowledge of Atonality, 12-Tone Serialism, and early 20th-century Western music, including Minimalism, Electronic music, and innovations in timbre and tuning.
