NUR 254 - Professional Nursing Across the Lifespan III

Builds on knowledge gained in NUR 253 . The patient with problems related to mobility, perception, metabolism, and body defense mechanisms is discussed, with emphasis on nurse and patient functioning on a health illness continuum. Included: immune, neurological, endocrine, integumentary, musculoskeletal, and sensory systems, and critical care and crisis nursing. Professional development is continued, as nursing leadership, ethical aspects of nursing care, and the legal-professional role of the nurse are discussed. Engaging and interactive class time, along with assignments and exams, are used to facilitate learning.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will analyze the relationship between physiological alterations; selected disease processes; and patient’s values, spirituality, and culture; socioeconomic status; emotional status; developmental stage; age; family dynamics.
CLO 2) Students will utilize knowledge of the nursing process and Clinical Judgment Measurement Model, for patients with neurologic, vision and hearing, integumentary, musculoskeletal, immune, endocrine, crisis nursing, and critical care disorders.
CLO 3) Students will generate an evidence-based plan of care, utilizing critical thinking techniques, for patients with neurologic, vision and hearing, integumentary, musculoskeletal, immune, endocrine, crisis nursing, and critical care disorders.
CLO 4) Students will recognize the importance of evidence-based practice standards and nursing research in advancing the practice of nursing.
CLO 5) Students will identify ethical concerns encountered in the practice of nursing.
CLO 6) Students will identify the differences between leadership and management roles in nursing practice.
CLO 7) Students will recognize the impact of economic, political, social, and demographic forces on the delivery of health care.
CLO 8) Students will implement strategies to reduce risk to patient safety in all healthcare settings across the lifespan.
CLO 9) Students will determine care to a group of patients through delegation and prioritization of patient needs.
