NUR 255 - Advanced Professional Nursing Across the Lifespan II

Builds on knowledge gained in NUR 106 . Evidence-based nursing knowledge presented will focus on the nursing process encompassing the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of physical and mental health and the prevention of illness for individuals across the lifespan. Engaging and interactive class time, along with assignments and exams, provide emphasis on complex nursing knowledge necessary for the care of individuals during pregnancy and the birth process as well as pediatric clients during stage of development.

Course Learning Outcomes:
CLO 1) Students will identify the roles and responsibilities of a practical nurse managing the care of patients during pregnancy and the birth process as well as pediatric patients during each stage of development.
CLO 2) Students will apply critical thinking skills and knowledge of the nursing process to create an individualized plan of care for patients during pregnancy and the birth process as well as pediatric patients during each stage of development.
CLO 3) Students will analyze how patients’ values, culture and roles in family and community settings impacts growth and development, reproduction, pregnancy, and the birth process.
CLO 4) Students will implement strategies to minimize safety risks in pediatric, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients.
CLO 5) Students will demonstrate how registered nurses collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide high quality individualized patient care.
CLO 6) Students will evaluate current standards of practice for the childbearing family and pediatric patients using reliable, up to date technological resources.
CLO 7) Students will distinguish how a trend in nursing practice is influencing patient care and outcomes.
CLO 8) Students will analyze personal practice of resilient behavior to manage stressors unique to being a healthcare professional.
